Balance

I never knew what motherhood really entailed, I only understood it from my outside perspective. It just looked tiring, but rewarding…maybe a little work, but a lot of fun. It turns out, it’s that and a million other things. Initially I thought the added worry was going to be the end of me, the never ending pain in my side. For me, it’s finding balance. As a (perfectionist), a realist, and loyal to my core, how is it possible to be a great parent, while also being a great wife, while also being a great employee, a great dog owner, a great friend, eat healthy, workout, look and feel pretty/confident, have a tidy house, and so on… how in the actual hot hell?

If I’ve learned anything, it’s that each day demands a new priority. Nothing can be back burnered, but not everything can be accomplished today. You have to learn to accept that on some days you might be a great parent and a crapshoot friend, or a great employee, but a mediocre dog owner… you have to learn to love each version of yourself that each day demands, and know you did all you could that day, and it was enough. You also have to surround yourself with a circle that loves every version of you, not just the Saturday you, and say screw the rest.

Unfortunately this isn’t the secret to achieving balance, it’s just a step to surviving the chase.
